non toxic organic bed sheets hanging on a clothes line

If you’re working on creating a healthier home, start with where you spend a third of your life- your bed. Conventional sheets are often treated with harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, flame retardants, and toxic dyes. Organic and non-toxic bed sheets offer a safer, more sustainable alternative that supports your well-being and the planet.

Why Go Organic with Your Bedding?

Organic bed sheets are made from natural fibers like cotton, linen, or hemp - free from pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and toxic finishes. Not only are they gentler on your skin, but they’re also hypoallergenic and breathable, making them ideal for sensitive sleepers and those with allergies. Choosing organic bedding means fewer harmful chemicals in your sleep environment and a softer, more natural feel every night.

What Makes Sheets Truly Non-Toxic?

Not all sheets labeled “organic” are created equal. Look for third-party certifications like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 to ensure your sheets meet strict environmental and health standards. These certifications verify that no harmful chemicals are used at any stage - from farming to finishing. Non-toxic sheets also avoid wrinkle-resistant treatments and synthetic dyes, giving you peace of mind every time you crawl into bed.

10 Best Non-Toxic Tea Kettles: The Ultimate Safe a Healthy Way to Boil Water

A non-toxic tea kettle pouring water into a teacup

More and more consumers are starting to learn about the dangers of cooking with Teflon pans and are swapping their toxic non-stick cookware for safer options. But did you know that tea kettles can also be problematic?

Many tea kettles on the market are made with materials that contain harmful substances, which can leach into the water when we boil it.

Thankfully, if you are in the market for a new tea kettle, you do not have to buy one of those toxic ones. There are many models you can choose from that are safe to use whenever you feel like brewing a cup of tea (or coffee).

We have selected 10 non-toxic tea kettle brands in this article, so you can safely cozy up and warm up with a nice cuppa now that the colder months are officially here!

Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliated; we may earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase. We only feature brands that align with our values and contribute to a better world. Thank you for supporting these brands - and us!

What makes a tea kettle non-toxic and safe to use?

A non-toxic tea kettle is one made with safe materials that do not leach harmful chemicals when heated. So the number one thing you should look out for when buying a new kettle is what it is made out of.

Avoid models made from plastic, particularly those that have plastic parts directly exposed to boiling water. When heated, the plastic will release endocrine-disrupting chemicals into your beverages, no matter if it is BPA-free or not.

You also want to steer clear of tea kettles made from aluminum, cast iron, copper, or ceramic, including colored glaze kettles with enamel coatings. Those can leach heavy metals at high temperatures, such as lead and cadmium.

Finally, make sure the kettle’s heating elements are hidden. Those with exposed heating coils usually contain high percentages of nickel, which is problematic if you are allergic.

What non-toxic materials should you search for?

The best, non-toxic materials for tea kettles are stainless steel and borosilicate glass. Both are resistant to high temperatures, so they are great, durable options for both electric and stovetop kettles.

If you opt for a stainless steel model, avoid 201-grade stainless steel because it might rust over time. Instead, favor those made with 18/8, 18/10, 304, or 316 food-grade stainless steel

If you buy a tea kettle made with either borosilicate glass or high-quality stainless steel, you can confidently drink your hot beverages without worrying. They will be free of heavy metals and other toxic substances like PTFEs, PFOAs, and PFAs!

The 10 Best Natural & Non-Toxic Air Fresheners in 2025

A bottle of non-toxic air freshener in a bathroom

Humans have been trying to mask unpleasant odors in their homes for millennia. Ages ago, people used to change the scent in the air by burning incense or using spices, herbs, and floral extracts.

But the invention of modern-day, conventional air fresheners actually dates back to 1948. It suddenly became very easy to get rid of unwanted smells and freshen up our spaces. We simply needed to spray out a fine mist into the air, and we would enjoy the lingering scent for a few hours.

These days, most households still regularly use air and fabric fresheners around their homes as they are extremely convenient to have. Yes, we can open the windows and let fresh air in, but sometimes, we want to add a nice scent to our rooms and closets.

Almost all air and fabric fresheners available in stores contain harmful chemicals and toxins that are incredibly unhealthy and unsustainable. But does that mean we need to stop using air fresheners altogether? No, it doesn’t!

In this article, you will learn more about ten brands that make eco-friendly, non-toxic air and fabric fresheners that you can safely use around your family, children and pets. We also included a DIY recipe for people who prefer making their own products!

Why You Should Stay Away From Conventional Air Fresheners

Since the home fragrance industry is unregulated and there are no safety standards or ingredient transparency requirements, companies selling air and fabric fresheners fill their products with extremely dangerous chemicals. These are known to trigger allergies and asthma and may cause other health problems.

Toxins in Air Fresheners

More specifically, conventional air fresheners usually contain phthalates, which are linked to hormone disruption and male reproductive system birth defects. Synthetic musks commonly appear in air fresheners, and researchers suspect they can cause allergies and disrupt hormones.

Air fresheners are also often made with petroleum distillates, which contribute to water, air and soil pollution, and being exposed to them can lead to respiratory issues, chemical pneumonia and pulmonary damage.

Air fresheners that come in aerosol cans contain aerosol propellants that can harm the ozone layer and elevate the risk of developing cancer and chronic health issues.

These are only a few harmful ingredients contained in air and fabric fresheners. But so many others are problematic for both human health and the environment!

How to Choose a Non-Toxic Air / Fabric Freshener that is also Sustainable

When looking for a non-toxic freshener, always check the ingredient list. If you cannot find one, it may be a warning sign that you should not buy the product!

Sustainable, non-toxic air and fabric fresheners use natural ingredients such as charcoal, plant oils, and mineral- and plant-based components. Also, make sure that the product does not contain harmful ingredients like those mentioned previously.

If you are not sure of your choice, always prefer brands that received trustworthy certifications, like B Corporations. And if you can, pick air fresheners that come in recyclable or compostable packaging. Refill options are great as well!

7. Moso Natural

Moso Natural’s bags are scent-free and filled with only one natural ingredient, which is completely non-toxic and safe to use around children and pets: pure Moso bamboo charcoal. 8. Friendsheep Wool

Type: Hand-felted Drawer Fabric Fresheners

Price: $6-34

Friendsheep Wool is on a mission to help consumers ditch single-use dryer sheets and synthetic fresheners, and offers great reusable, plastic-free alternatives.

You simply need to put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on the eco freshener, place it in your drawer, and it will make everything smell so good! They also work as air fresheners as you can display them in a vase or in your car to refresh the air whenever you want.

Friendsheep Wool makes its eco fresheners in a variety of designs, from lovely roses to cute little bees and colorful birds. Three bottles of organic non-toxic orange zest air freshener by Citrus Magic

9. Citrus Magic

Type: Air Freshener Sprays, Solid Air Fresheners

Price: pack of 3 for $35

Citrus Magic sells all kinds of natural odor-eliminating products, from sprays to solid air fresheners. It has different scented sprays, but we particularly recommend its USDA-certified organic fresheners.

You can choose between a blend of organic tropical citrus fruits and a blend of citrus fruits, lavender and eucalyptus. Both sprays eliminate odors instead of hiding them and fill the room with a clean, refreshing scent.

If you want an odor-removing solution for the long haul, Citrus Magic also has a variety of long-lasting solid air fresheners. Very practical, they can be in cupboards, under the bed or behind a couch, and they will keep the air fresh for up to eight weeks.

The brand even has versions specially made for cars, as well as small solid air fresheners in the shape of little paws that you can tuck behind a litter box to eliminate pet odors for seven days.

A hand holding a glass bottle of DIY homemade natural air and fabric freshener

10. DIY Air & Fabric Freshener

All the brands mentioned in this article sell non-toxic air and fabric fresheners made with natural ingredients. But if you prefer making your own household products to clean and refresh your home instead of buying ready-made ones, this recipe is for you!

First, find an unused spray bottle in your home: the most sustainable option is to reuse one from a product that you have used up. Of course, do not forget to properly clean it so that there is no residue left.

Put one tablespoon of baking soda into a bowl, & add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to it.

I personally love making cleaning products with citrus oils, like lemon, orange or grapefruit essential oils. These always smell so good! I have also made DIY products with Ylang Ylang essential oil, which I highly recommend if you want a more exotic, floral scent.

Then, mix the oil into the baking soda with a fork or a small whisk, and use a funnel to put the mixture into the spray bottle. Finally, pour 2 cups of warm distilled water, and shake the bottle.

And there you have your homemade air and fabric freshener! You can use it to refresh the air in your home or spruce up home textiles and clothes that need a boost before washing them.

This recipe is extremely easy and cheap to make, and all the ingredients are non-toxic. Not to mention you can customize the scent and choose a different one every time you make another homemade freshener!

The Best Eco-Friendly Phone Cases to Protect Your Tech and the Planet in 2025

It is estimated that in 2023, around 1.34 billion smartphones were sold worldwide. A large part of these consumers also probably bought a phone case to protect their precious device from damage.

It's a great idea to purchase something to keep our electronics safe, but most phone cases on the market are made of plastic. It means that billions of phone cases will stay on the planet for hundreds of years, if not more.

What's worse, most of them are poorly made and don’t last long, which isn't surprising given that phone cases can cost as little as a dollar. Poor-quality phone cases will not only become waste fairly quickly, but they are also less likely to protect your device as they should.

For those reasons, we should all invest in a high-quality, sustainable phone case to make sure our phones stay intact and protected from everyday drops and bumps.

If you are looking for a new one, we have selected nine brands that sell well-made, eco-friendly phone cases.

What Makes a Phone Case Eco-Friendly?

A sustainable phone case is always very sturdy, high-quality and made to last. It usually consists of sustainable materials and should withstand more than just a few months of use.

It should also protect your device from drops and bumps because no phone case is eco-friendly if it does not prevent your phone from breaking and becoming e-waste. E-waste is very toxic when discarded inappropriately and causes many environmental issues, so we certainly do not need more of it.

If the company that sells the phone cases is climate-neutral or a certified B Corporation, even better!

What Sustainable Materials Should You Look For?

There are many eco-friendly materials that you can choose when looking for a new phone case.

You cannot go wrong with a phone case made from natural materials, like sustainably harvested wood, cork or bamboo. Those are compostable at the end of their life, so they will not stay on the planet forever.

You can also find phone cases made from bioplastic derived from plants, like straw, or ones crafted from recycled materials. For example, some parts use recycled silicone or aluminum, while the main body of the phone case is often made from recycled plastic.

Brands are now able to create phone cases made with all kinds of recycled plastic, from recycled fishing nets to recycled plastic bottles to recycled TPU. Some brands even sell cases made using old CDs, upcycled skateboards or simply discarded phone cases.

Also, prefer phone cases produced using non-toxic and sustainable glues, lining and adhesives.

What Is a Sustainable Marketplace?

A sustainable online marketplace is a curated platform that brings together brands and products that prioritize ethical production, eco-friendly materials, and low-impact practices. These marketplaces make it easier for conscious consumers to shop in alignment with their values—without the overwhelm.

Let’s face it: shopping sustainably can be time-consuming. You need to know what a product is made of, how it’s sourced, who made it, and what happens to it at the end of its life. That’s a lot to research. Thankfully, ethical online marketplaces do the work for you by vetting every product and brand they carry.

Many offer a wide range of sustainable products across multiple categories, including fashion, beauty, home goods, and gifts. Others focus on specific niches, like zero-waste living, clean food, or eco-friendly baby essentials. Either way, these platforms provide a one-stop-shop experience that saves time and supports more responsible consumption.

Why Support Sustainable and Ethical Online Marketplaces?

Supporting sustainable marketplaces does more than help the environment—it supports small businesses and independent retailers that are committed to ethical sourcing, transparency, and fair labor practices.

Unlike massive online retailers, these platforms are mission-driven. They carefully select brands that use organic, recycled, or non-toxic materials, pay workers fairly, and minimize environmental impact. By choosing to shop from an ethical marketplace, you're voting with your dollars for a better future—one that values people and the planet.

Shopping from these platforms means investing in quality over quantity, reducing waste, and supporting a global shift toward more sustainable and ethical commerce.
